I'm the Strongest I've Ever Been Thanks to Yoga
I used to do what I now call regular workouts - the cardio, sit ups and push ups. My first experience with yoga was through a YouTube video. I saw people who were, what most of us would call, meager or skinny lifting their body weight as if their bodies were feathers. They were calm and meticulous in their motions and looked like they weren’t putting any strain on their bodies. So I decided I needed to try a few of the exercises. I could do a hundred push ups easily but I could not do the plank for more than a few seconds. I felt inadequate and weak. The more I studied yoga, I realized that strength without flexibility is not real strength.
@@I started adding yoga to my workout and doing more plyometrics so I could maintain muscle mass.@@
People often ask me what kind of yoga I practice. Ashtanga was the first type of yoga I practiced because it focused on flexibility and strength. I found Bikram yoga for how it supports detoxification and increases flexibility faster.
Stretching aligns the body, tears the muscle fibers making them stronger in the same way as lifting weights except that weights add bulk while yoga is great for control. I always caution anyone that wants to try yoga for fitness - none of this works without proper nutrition. I’m on my way to eating totally raw. Now and then I cook grains and greens but the ultimate goal is raw only.
This is the yoga video I'm using for my practice now. If you try it out let me know what you think.
